Congratulations go out to the golden boy Nathan for his nomination as world sailor of the year.
Good shit bruv!

Hey All,
The 2010 moth worlds website is up and running now. Please do not register just yet, we have a little bit of work to do on that page this week. Pages will be updated over the next few weeks with sponsors and initial press releases. If anyone wants pics of themselves or vids added, comment here or mail us and let us know your favourites. We will try and add pics of each competitor as they enter. If we know your coming ill add them over the next couple of weeks anyway.
is cold in my office this morning.
The real AC is getting all hot under the collar, mostly due to sailing anarchy winding up the UAE as a terrorist state. Lovely but very misinformed. Anyway, a lot of the Alinghi team are here now and moving up to RAK. The boat gets here next week and the new mast is on its way as well. New mast??! Bigger Mast, new set of sails at approx USD 300,000 for a north 3dl main.
Speaking to a few of the boys at one of our buddies 30th b day parties over the weekend, they are doing 26 knots in 6 or 7 knots of breeze. That is absolutely crazy. All the talk is of Alinghi changing the rules so they can win, lots of talk of them making a ridiculous rule. The one i was suggested over the weekend was owner driver. Not crazy, they already do all that kind of thing already, just that Larry decided to do it on an RC44 while Erny has being playing with cats for a while now. Hopefully can get up to Rak and get out to see the monster training over the next couple of months or so.
The mothosphere is really very quiet right now. I think a lot of people taking some quick down time before winding up to Dubai, which is coming up really fast. Everything is sorted with sponsors etc, we are just waiting for the first press release. We are working on an airfreight deal at the moment, hopefully that comes off and we get preferred freight rates.
I sailed on a bendytoy 34.7 on the weekend, mixing between bowman and mastman. I find it really hard to keep my mouth shut on board, i have been sailing on ym own for ages now i always can go where i wanna go and do what i wanna do. Anyway, we had two seconds i think in trying conditions.
Had a shakedown sail on Saturday and started to get my sailing back together. It was still 38 or 39 degrees on the water and water temp was hot.
Thursday i went out for a sail on the Sb3′s. I was doing some training with Yousef the local celeb who had my bro and another dude on board. The builders from Premier were out as well, on their new Sb3. The fleet is growing fast and we had a good tune up sail.
Friday I had promised the 34.7 owner Mike that i would show up for a shake down sail as the season starts next week. I am the bowman on board till December. Not sure what I have got myself in for there. I always get collared into bow as i am small. Some reason people think that means you will be good at it, oh well, lets see how wrong they can be. Ian Walker and Jamie Boag were in town and sailing on one of the other bendytoys and presumably looking for a sponsor for another volvo ocean race. Whatever else could they be doing in the money bags Middle East??
Saturday was to be the shakedown sail on the moth. Considering i had already done two days sailing in human killer temps and sun, mash that together with two 5am drinking nights / mornings on the trot and a visit from the MD of the company yesterdat morning i was a little weary to be mothing. Not cause i did not want to but the boat work before hand to get my boat from box to beach was going to be painful. Anyway, got it up and going, Glenn and I were the last two out to the start and only just made it. I got the other of all bags on my main foil on the first downwind in the first race, which i could not get off without 5 minutes swimming.
Second race was good, the new ride hieght thingy works…. kind of, need to do a bit of tinkering i think to make it actually work properly. Needless to say i was so high upwind and then could not wind it off downwind i was well scared, innit. Going from sailing in really heavy air to the Dubai lighter air again took a bit of getting used to.
third race was good, glenno got me in that one though. Fourth race was good until i got another bag monster on last downwind and glenno over took me. Last race was cool, and i was feeling a little happier with the set up and pace.
Good day to get rid of the ring rust. The down side is that i am super broke now and cannot get a new boat. Id love to but its just not going to happen unless i sell this BR. Its for sale if anyone wants!

9 is the magic number today. That is because yesterday the Dubai metro opened. It opened on the 9th of the 9th 2009 at 9.09 pm with 9 stations. Seriously, you could not make this stuff up if you tried. Now obvioulsy they were glossing it a bit, because there are supposed to be about 35 stations, but only 9 were ready. And when we say ready, we mean still have scaffolding and no safety on there. Anyhow, wish me luck with my beheading.
Went out into town last night with my brother and Yousef to watch the England football game. Apprently Coutts has been in town, which by the way is total shite, but what do the locals know hey boys. Ben had a few too many beers before we went out and could hardly talk when we were watching the game. As it is ramadan Dubai is VOID of the female sex and there is no music in the bars. We did find one lucky professional at the end of the night who had an interest in Ben. She was so taken aback by his good looks she could only blurt out, HEY YOU, Home, Sex. We found this quite amusing to say the least…… drunken sailors eh, what a nightmare.
One more week to go! I am going for a yacht this weekend. Shweeet.
I dunno bout that, my hip is killing me after my couple of laps round Safa Park, i just had to keep up with said hotty didn’t I.
I have believe it or not….. put my boat back together. Customs decided my top cover was better off not with my boat so i am coverless right now. I might get out on saturday for a bit of a float around, but thats a very big might.
The mothsphere blogsphere universe galaxy is heating up now nobody is winding up for any important events. We have lost our superstar blogger in Joe, our leading light. So it looks like everyone is trying to get some cheap early points in there for discussion topics. All very entertaining I must say.
Only another week or so left of Ramadan. Its so slow and dull here right now, it hs at least let me get on top of everything. that is the only reason my boat is back together to be honest, out of bordum.
I had a really funny, hilarious piece of news to give to you from Dubai which i read in the paper the other day. Sad to say i forgot what it was about now. Roll on the camel beauty pagent that comes with Eid, mum is away in Dominican Republic at the moment so the title is up for grabs.
Some people call him the great white hope, Some people call him the Express. I only know him as the stig. Star of the puma moth video in the Gorge. Brad Funk.
Glenno Raphael is also in the vid.
:).
I went to watch GI JOE at the cinema last night, anyone that was in that film should be lined up against a wall and shot. Apart from Sienna Miller. It was one of the worst acting movies i have ever seen. I actually came out the cinema with less brain cells and noticeably more stupid. Now i defo do not understand foil sections and hydrofoiling in general. Where do i get a copy of that book?
My boat arrived home yesterday. My box was lidless and had more holes in it that Rohan’s VRX did at the worlds. And thats a lot!
But at least the fork lift missed my boat the 5 times they went through the box. Glenn’s sailing kit smells like something not good.
I suppose i should put it back together at some point over the next few days! Perhaps!
